2017-2018 Community Service Projects are:
BackPacks4Kids – Filling backpacks with non-perishable items for children to take home every Friday of the school year that qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program so that they have food to eat on the weekends.
Children’s Life Skills – 8 Lessons per school year (September-April) using community speakers, hands on activities and art to teach successful habits and practices to children ages 6-18 at Boys & Girls Club.
Happy Feet – Dance classes for teens enrolled in Special Education along with their siblings and parents for an hour of fun and social interaction. Classes are held in the spring between Mardi Gras and Easter.
Hearts United – The objective of this project is to break the cycle of dependency, whether it be physical or emotional for a struggling family in the community.
Juniors In Service – JAS members mentor up to 50 high school juniors and introduce them to volunteerism in our community assisting in several service projects throughout the school year.
Know Your Child – Education and awareness program for parents of teenagers to recognize the warning signs of depression, bullying and drug/alcohol abuse.
Literary Liaisons – JAS members offer individual and small group assistance in reading and language arts for children K-4th grade in various classrooms and schools in the community.
Slidell Cyber Seniors – Teaching seniors about computers, tablets, and smart phones to use social media and apps etc…for their enjoyment and to help them connect to their friends and family.
Spelling Bee – Organize and sponsor school wide Spelling Bees at two of our area junior high schools and help prepare finalists for the regional competition in New Orleans.
“The Junior Auxiliary (JA) represents a serious endeavor on the part of women to be active and constructive community participants and to assume leadership roles in meeting community needs. Junior Auxiliary provides the member with the opportunity to serve and to be a vital part of the community. The objectives of the Association are to unite in one body all Junior Auxiliary Chapters and members to promote National and individual Chapter purposes.
